TED prize: A man who gives slums a human face
J R, a mysterious worldwide “photograffeur” (graffeur is French for graffiti artist), travels to slums around the world and paints “colossal photographs in downtrodden neighborhoods.” Aside from winning a highly renowned philanthropic prize, TED also grants the winner a chance to make a “wish”: to devote the $100,000 in funds to a humanitarian project that will almost inevitably draw in donations. notions i could never articulate expressed brilliantly. it’s all about understanding your own time perspective and that of others; after realizing that we can change the way we interact with one another and how we exist in the world.

House Vortex by Dan Havel and Dean Ruck…
The Art League offered Havel and Ruck the old studio buildings before they were demolished to make way for a new Art League building. The adjacent houses [were] used for exhibition space and art classes for over thirty years. [The duo] created a large funnel-like vortex beginning from the west wall adjacent to Montrose Blvd. The exterior skin of the houses will be peeled off and used to create the narrowing spiral as it progresses eastward through the small central hallway connecting the two buildings and exiting through a small hole into an adjacent courtyard. Amazing Ad Campaign of the Day: To creatively demonstrate their sound engineering capabilities, GGRP Sound sent out a mess of cardboard record players — designed by GREY of Canada — to creative directors across North America.
The cardboard record player is exactly what it sounds like: A record player made from corrugated cardboard:
Once assembled, a record can be spun on the player with a pencil. The vibrations go through the needle and are amplified in the cardboard material.I don’t know much, but I do know this: Every single last record should come wrapped inside a cardboard record player.

A Kit To Thwart Writers Block by Elizabeth Dilk…
Writers, designers artist and many other creatively minded professionals often find themselves lacking inspiration. Finding new ideas or new approaches to motivate themselves can often be tricky, but Elizabeth Dilk has created ‘a kit to thwart writers block’. While specifically designed with writers in mind, the kit can help many people kick start their creativity. As a graphic design student Dilk was asked to ‘find something I hate, change it and make it better, and then advertise it’ for a project. As she states ‘because I hate getting writers block, I researched the many ways to solve it, and created a packaged kit.’ No word yet of a kit for designers block. (via)

‘Let It Shine’ commercial for the Honda Insight, where a ton of Hondas are used as pixels in an LED-screen, using their headlights.
