TED prize: A man who gives slums a human face

J R, a mysterious worldwide “photograffeur” (graffeur is French for graffiti artist), travels to slums around the world and paints “colossal photographs in downtrodden neighborhoods.” Aside from winning a highly renowned philanthropic prize, TED also grants the winner a chance to make a “wish”: to devote the $100,000 in funds to a humanitarian project that will almost inevitably draw in donations.
